2015 Parents Day

Triangle Family Church National Parents Day 2015 report (July 26, 2015)

The program commenced by a reading of the proclamation of our governor by Gene Huneycutt, a student at North Carolina State University. We continued to have a lot of live entertainment. It included Levonder Brinkley, an Ambassador for Peace, who sang a worship song and her grandchildren, who offered a praise dance in tutus. This followed with a touching Korean song sung by Yi-Gyu Uyama, personally dedicated to her parents. Also, there was a duo with Bob Huneycutt and Stephanie Nishida singing “What a wonderful World”. Followed by the live entertainment, I also chose to add comedic or heartwarming videos. Many of these performances were tear jerkers!
After Pastor John of the Triangle Family Church, gave a brief message about God’s view of parenting, we recognized six “Parents of Excellence”. These included the following people … Sami and Kamile Malik, Ryan and Joy McCombs, Lexandria Angel Avent, Larry and LovN’der Alston, Benji and Hitoe Uyama, Tim and Gail Davis. “The Parents of the Year” for North Carolina were Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Forbes. They had just returned from being honored at the special event in Washington, DC!
The event ended in dance with the very appropriate and famous song called “We are Family” by the Sister Sledge group. Parents danced with their children; Children found other children; and we all danced together as we exited the room to leave. I enjoyed the informal and family friendly event. Everyone was in a great mood at the end!
A special thank you to the Triangle Family Church for hosting, to our Japanese sisters who prepared the meal, to our youth for serving, and to all the volunteers! An extra thank you to Sharon Pace, the Secretary General of UPF in NC, for organizing this event from conception to completion.
